COSMETIC DENTISTRY

Cosmetic dentistry is the treatment that provides people with a healthy and aesthetic appearance and improvement of lost functions with various procedures on teeth and gums. Cosmetic dentistry performs the treatment of dental caries, worn teeth, discoloured teeth (teeth whitening), sensitive teeth, tooth gaps (diastema), traumatized teeth, broken and chipped teeth, and deformed and crooked teeth.

Aesthetic Filling - Bonding

Within the scope of this treatment, composite white fillings (bonding applications), porcelain fillings (inlay-onlay), fibre applications, teeth whitening methods, laser technology and laminate applications are used.

It refers to a cosmetic procedure performed to change and improve the colour, size and shape of teeth with composite (white) filling in the restoration of decayed, worn, broken teeth. We can also call bonding applications as dental tissue-friendly procedures since they cause a minimal material loss in the tooth tissue. As the material used in our dental clinic and the cost of composite filling is low and the colour options are high, it provides satisfactory results for our patients at an affordable price.

There is a golden ratio rule both in teeth and in nature. According to this rule, teeth must be seen in certain proportions in order to be aesthetically perfect when viewed from the front. These ratios are taken into consideration in aesthetic fillings, and teeth are first corrected and contoured with minimal operations. Afterwards, restorations are made with composite material, which is easy to shape into these areas.

The biggest advantage of aesthetic composite fillings is that they have different colour options and are transparent and aesthetically pleasing to the patients. They are also affordable. On patient’s request, an aesthetic filling can be applied on the same tooth again. It is preferred by patients because it causes minimal damage to the dental tissue.

Porcelain Inlay - Onlay Fillings

Used in cases where loss of tooth tissue is excessive, porcelain fillings are tailor-made fillings made of fully porcelain that are aesthetic and preserve the integrity of the teeth and remain intact against chewing forces. They are usually used on the posterior teeth. Porcelain inlay filling is a special filling made for the inner part of the cusps in the chewing area of the teeth, while porcelain onlay fillings are larger porcelain fillings that also cover the upper part of tooth.

Porcelain inlay – onlay fillings are fillings made in two sessions. First of all, the existing caries on the teeth are cleaned and a special cavity is prepared for filling. Afterwards, the dentist takes measurements from the teeth with special measurement techniques, the colour is selected from the porcelain colour scale according to the patient's teeth, and the information on colour and measurement is sent to the laboratory. The porcelain filling prepared in the laboratory is adhered to the tooth with special materials in the second session, in the area isolated from saliva in the mouth. The procedure ends with the final polishing performed by the dentist.

Porcelain inlay-onlay filling is used as an alternative to porcelain crowns in order to preserve the integrity of the teeth, especially in teeth that have undergone root canal treatment, lost their water, and have an increased level of fragility. In addition, composite fillings are used as an alternative in order to provide both aesthetic and more ideal tooth contact in teeth with a high loss of substance. They are also used to increase the vertical dimension in severely worn teeth.

Porcelain inlay-onlay fillings are more aesthetic than composite fillings as they do not cause discoloration. In addition, their edge compatibility is better than composite fillings as they are processed in a special laboratory. They offer a more successful treatment opportunity in extensive restorations. In addition, since the good edge compatibility ensures that there is no leakage in the tooth junction areas as a result of the restoration, the risk of caries in the remaining hard tissue of teeth is less than teeth treated with composite fillings.
