ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY

Orthognathic surgery is a general term describing surgical procedures related to the correction of skeletal and dental defects in the facial bones. These are surgeries performed when the patient's maxillofacial appearance needs correction, when the jaws are not compatible with each other or when the teeth are not compatible with the jaws.

Situations in which Orthognathic Surgery is applied

• In cases where the lower jaw is in front, behind, on the right side or on the left side,
• In cases where one side or all of the lower jaw is underdeveloped,
• In cases where the upper jaw is in front, behind, on the right side or on the left side,
• In cases where the upper jaw is underdeveloped,
• The teeth in the lower jaw and upper jaw do not touch each other (open bite),
• In cases where the chin tip is forward or backward and small or large,
• In cases where the cheekbones are larger or smaller than they should be, or positioned in front or behind,
• Deterioration of the shape and structure of the jaws due to accidents and tumours,
• In cases where the relationship between the lower jaw and the upper jaw is not normal, bite disorder-malocclusion occurs. These problems in teeth and skeletal structure also reflect on facial aesthetics to varying extents. So, the problem here is both functional and aesthetic.
